Energy Smart

StFX has been working hard to slash our environmental impact – and we have the numbers to back it up:

Between 2008 and 2016, StFX reduced greenhouse gas emissions on campus by 21.8% - a reduction of 5,746 Metric Tonnes of CO2. That’s the equivalent of taking more than 1,500 cars off the road, every single year.

In 2015, that reduction was as high as 28.2% - a decrease of 7,440 Metric Tonnes of CO2.

For comparison, Canada’s federal government has a goal of reducing emissions 30% below 2005 levels by 2030 – a span of 25 years. StFX was close to achieving that reduction in just seven years!

Bloomfield SUB Solar Panels

In partnership with the StFX Students’ Union and the StFX Environmental Society, the university installed 40 260W solar panels on the roof of the Bloomfield building in 2015. With a capacity of 10.4kW, the system started producing energy on June 30, 2015.
