Jillian Bonaparte
Over four-years of time, I graduated with a BSc. RN degree with Dean’s list recognition and distinction in 2019 from St FX University, Rankin School of Nursing (RSoN). My current areas of practice include perinatal and family health, inclusive of obstetrical and neonatal care.
Upon learning from mentors/faculty and staff members within the St FX community, I completed my final semester of nursing school immersed in the community health setting and at the IWK on the inpatient antepartum and post-op gynecological surgery unit.
I started my journey as a full-time registered nurse in July 2019 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on the Progressive Care Unit. After six months of acute med-surg practice, I started working on the Children and Women’s Health Unit (CWHU), in Antigonish. As beautiful as the nursing career can be, working throughout the Covid-19 pandemic as a transitioning new grad (and human) brought about many different challenges. In moving forward with the help of mentors, I was given the opportunity as a nurse preceptor through the NSHA and RSoN. This brought immense joy and fostered motivational collaboration toward continuing professional education and lifelong learning.
I currently am working my first year as a course instructor, second year as a nurse educator, and my third semester as a postgraduate student. I am currently enrolled in the Masters of Adult Education Concentration in Health program, at St FX (Jan. 2024 cohort). I also work during periods of time off, as a casual employee at Aberdeen Regional Hospital and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital to help with the everchanging dynamic of healthcare.
Amongst the chaos of everyday life, I try to remain positive, reflective, & energetic. For me, this is achieved best when taking the time to put music in my ears and walk (or jog) with my “therapy doodle” Murph. I also enjoy spending time and travelling with friends and family!
