Advocate for local and global social change
Welcome to the Coady Institute, established in 1959. This prestigious campus institute strives to build community-minded leaders who are committed to reducing poverty, improving economies, and implementing change on all levels. The Coady Institute is inspired by the Antigonish Movement that began in 1920.
This movement’s goal is to improve and strengthen communities as a whole and is guided by a number of principles, including:
- Recognizing each person’s or group’s dignity and sovereignty
- Giving people the tools to improve themselves through education
- Giving people the opportunity to study something they’re interested in
- Education should be sensitive to the groups and cultures that students exist within
- True reform involves fundamental changes in existing social and economic institutions
