The X-ACademic Transition program (X-ACT) is a 6-week, peer-led program for first-year students, starting alongside your first courses in September. X-ACT is designed to help every first-year student develop and enhance skills for learning and coping with your academics. You’ll hear from experienced students about how to best manage your time and your many obligations, how to make sense of and use a course syllabus, how to study for the best results, how to understand academic integrity, and much more. University study is a new degree of difficulty, and we want you to know how to adapt and thrive.
When you complete the program, you will earn an academic bonus: points that you can devote to a participating first-year course of your choice. You will also be entered into a prize draw.
X-ACT complements the information from the X Starts Here program, available online in the summer before you arrive. You can still participate in X-ACT if you haven’t yet completed X Starts Here, but you’ll be better served to take them in order.
sELECTING YOUR BONUS COURSE
Participants who attend at least five of the six weeks' sessions will earn bonus grades in one of the courses listed here. The choice may be made in early November, when a selection form will be emailed to eligible participants. Your professors will be notified and will make the adjustment to your midterm or final grade, as they have indicated.
Getting registered in X-ACT is as simple as selecting a section that fits in your course schedule, and completing the short registration with your name and StFX email address.
Sections are available on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday evenings. The full set of sections from which to choose can be found on the Academic Success Centre’s X-ACT workshops calendar.
