Over the last two weeks, the world has witnessed shocking acts of violence, terror, and oppression in Iran. These latest atrocities come in retaliation to protests that were in response to the death of an Iranian woman who was arrested after a clash with the country’s ‘morality police.’ Her name was Mahsa Amini, and she was only 22 years old. Her crime – “unsuitable attire.”
Her death has sparked a global outcry and we, as an institution, fully support the courageous women and all who fight for basic human rights and freedoms – freedom from oppression. We join the many voices calling for an immediate end to the violence being perpetrated against thousands of civilians, including students, who are bravely demanding an end to a misogynistic and oppressive regime.
