Biography

Mary Oxner PhD CPA CA CFA, Professor, joined the School of Business in 2000 to develop and teach various courses in the accounting and finance disciplines. Currently, Dr. Oxner primarily teaches advanced accounting courses and is the recipient of the StFX University Outstanding Teaching Award. 

Dr. Oxner is the Past-President of the StFX Association of University Teachers (StFXAUT), Past-Chair of Senate and Committee on Nominations and a former faculty representative on the Board of Governors of St. Francis Xavier University. Prior to joining the business faculty, she was the Senior Vice President of Quorum Funding Corporation, a strategic investment management company, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Quorum Growth Inc., a TSX publicly traded closed-end investment fund. Dr. Oxner was also a staff accountant in Ernst & Young’s International audit group. 

Dr. Oxner’s research and outreach interests are financial literacy, corporate governance, instructional strategies, financial literacy, labour force readiness of Indigenous youth and Indigenous women in business. 

Dr. Oxner volunteers in her community by serving as the Treasurer of Antigonish Affordable Housing Society and the Secretary/Treasurer of the Creative Wellness Project which organizes the Friendship Corner, mental health workshops and peer support groups in Antigonish. She serves on the Board of Directors of East Coast Credit Union, Atlantic Central Credit Union, Leagues Savings and Mortgage and the Medical Council of Canada. Her volunteer efforts have been recognized by the StFX University Outreach Award, as the CA of the Year for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia and as the (inaugural) Terry Milne Volunteer of the Year for the Chartered Financial Analysts’ Atlantic Canada Society.
