St. Francis Xavier University student Braelyn Spencer has earned a McCall MacBain Regional Award. This scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.
A fourth-year Gerald Schwartz School of Business student, Ms. Spencer serves as president of the Schwartz Women in Business Society. She participated in a volunteer service trip to Belize, which inspired her to establish and lead a legal services mission for Global Brigades, the first of its kind in Canada.
Ms. Spencer is also an intern at the university’s Frank McKenna Centre for Leadership, where she completed a year-long leadership training program. Her honours thesis explores the experiences of Indigenous women in business education.
"It is an incredible honour to receive the McCall MacBain Regional Award," she says. "My involvement in my campus and local communities at StFX represents the moments I hold closest to my heart. I recognize that much of my learning occurs outside the classroom, through moments of connection, resilience, and reciprocity. Being involved has given me a deep sense of purpose beyond academics."
Ms. Spencer ranked among the top 90 of more than 700 Canadian applicants this year, and she will receive a $5,000 Regional Award. The Regional Award can be applied to eligible master's or professional studies at any public university in Canada.
The McCall MacBain Scholarships are the result of a landmark $200 million gift in 2019, then the largest single donation in Canadian history, by John and Marcy McCall MacBain.
Applications will open in June 2026 for the 2027 cohort. More information about the McCall MacBain Scholarships can be found at mccallmacbainscholars.org.
