St. Francis Xavier University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Andy Hakin is pleased to announce that Dennis Flood ’80 has been appointed Chair of the StFX Board of Governors.
Mr. Flood is currently Director and Portfolio Manager at Scotia Wealth Management. He has been appointed by the Board for a three year term commencing July 1, 2021.
“I am delighted to welcome Dennis to the role of Chair of the StFX Board of Governors,” Dr. Hakin said. “Dennis served as a board member of the StFX Board of Governors from 2010-2016. With an impressive track record of leadership, coupled with his long history with StFX, Dennis is a perfect fit to lead the board in the years to come.”

Dr. Hakin also thanked Michael Boyd ’85, Managing Director and Head, Global Mergers & Acquisitions with CIBC World Markets, for his years of service to StFX as Chair of the StFX Board of Governors since 2017. “Mike’s contributions to StFX have been invaluable. The university community has benefitted immensely from Mike’s contributions, especially during the pandemic. We were fortunate to have a leader of his calibre provide his knowledge and experience to the university’s board.
Mr. Flood has been in the financial services industry for over 30 years. He started his career with Citibank Leasing in 1986, eventually becoming their Western Regional Manager for their Medi-Dent (medical equipment) leasing division. In 1993, Mr. Flood joined ScotiaMcLeod, now Scotia Wealth Management, where he held progressively senior positions, including over 10 years as Atlantic Regional Managing Director. In this capacity, he was instrumental in the transformation of the firm from an investment management company to a comprehensive wealth management firm.
Mr. Flood’s connection with StFX runs deeps. Following in his father’s footsteps, Mr. Flood graduated from StFX in 1980. His spouse, Madonna Barry Flood, also graduated from StFX in 1983, as well as three of their four children: Benjamin (2015), Daniel (2017,) Michael (UBC 2018), and Meghan (2018). Six of his siblings also attended StFX.
Mr. Flood holds a BA from StFX where he majored in economics and a Master of Business Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland (1985). He also holds a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania and was recently granted the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors following study directed by the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management.
Mr. Flood served previously on the Board of Opportunities New Brunswick (Executive Committee). Dennis and Madonna Flood reside in Rothesay, New Brunswick.
