To the campus community,
Campus cannot reopen and classes cannot resume until power has been restored. Unfortunately, while we hope for this sooner rather than later, we cannot predict with confidence when that will be at this time.
We appreciate that some may have the option of leaving campus, heading home or to another safe space in which power has been restored and that returning to campus will take time and planning. It is with that in mind that the campus community will be given a minimum 24 hours’ notice of classes resuming before classes restart. This means that, given the time of day and the fact that power has yet to be restored, the earliest classes might reasonably resume is Wednesday, September 28.
The next update to the campus community will be at 9 AM Tuesday (tomorrow). If power has been restored, classes will resume on Wednesday morning. Once power has been restored, employees will be expected to report for work at 1:00 PM tomorrow afternoon as we ramp up operations.
We understand this is a stressful time for many, and that some students are experiencing even more disruption because of the need to move residences during and following the storm. The Health and Counselling Centre will reopen once power has been restored to campus, but for any students requiring immediate support the following resources are available 24/7:
- St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Emergency Department (emergencies only)
- Call 911
- NS Mental Health Crisis Line: 1-888-429-8167
- Good2TalkNS: 1-833-292-3698
- Crisis Text Line: text “GOOD2TALKNS” to 686868
In addition, the following online resources are available for Nova Scotia students through Healthy Minds NS (- please also see the attached resource list for more information): https://healthymindsns.ca/
Finally, please ensure you stay up to date. Information about power restoration will be shared via StFX Alerts, the StFX website, emails, social media, and local radio stations for updates. To sign up for StFX Alerts, visit www.alerts.stfx.ca.
