Research

Dr. Erin Mazerolle is an interdisciplinary neuroscience and brain health researcher. Collaborators and trainees have diverse backgrounds including education, psychology, health, biology, computer science, chemistry, engineering, physics, neuropsychology, and neurology.

Our work has three broad aims:

1) improving brain health literacy through community-engaged research

2) translating cutting-edge brain imaging techniques to clinical use

3) improving reproducibility of functional brain imaging research

Ongoing and upcoming (funded) projects in the lab include:

  • Co-creating and evaluating a series of videos for the general public and healthcare providers about vascular cognitive impairment.
  • Co-creating a board game to teach the public about maintaining brain health.
  • Co-developing an intervention to improve concussion symptom reporting behaviour in student athletes.
  • Developing a hands-on activity to help teach the general public about the link between housing instability and brain health.
  • Evaluating the impact of better access to inexpensive laptops on student wellbeing.
  • Examining feasibility and student perspectives on open educational resource (OER)-enabled pedagogy in upper-level psychology courses.
  • Characterizing SuperAgers (older adults with exceptional memory) in the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging.
  • Evaluating the test-retest repeatability of functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) measurements of cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR).
  • Piloting the use of fNIRS CVR for concussion tracking.
