Residence Renewal
The Student Experience and Opportunity Plan (draft) identifies the First Year student experience as a priority for the next five years. Building on the residence renewal that began in 2017, our hope is to enhance a culture that supports all students flourishing across five factors:
ENGAGED LEARNING - ACADEMIC DETERMINATION - POSITIVE PERSPECTIVE - DIVERSE CITIZENSHIP - SOCIAL CONNECTEDNESS
In the Fall of 2021, an extensive consultation process conducted by external reviewers. The reviewers were asked to provide recommendations to support:
- A modernized and professional service model that will support student transition and success.
- Focused, consistent and supportive programming that will enhance the residence culture and experience.
- Role clarity and training that will strengthen accountability for residence operations and functions.
Our 2021-2022 Residence Renewal Process
External Reviewers: Chad Johnstone, Director, Residence and Student Life, Acadia University;
Dr. Tracey Mason-Innes, Executive Director, Student Affairs, Simon Fraser University
The most recent phase builds on lessons learned from the 2017 review with feedback from current residence student leaders and other campus stakeholders on the next steps toward the vision of a residence experience with student leadership opportunities and balances social and academic success with health, equity, safety and inclusion. To get there, further change is necessary.
